The new Birds of Prey poster reveals a much better look at the supporting cast for the Margot Robbie-led movie. Yet, the images of the characters sent some fans into a tizzy because it supports a recent spoiler leak. The rumor says we will not see the titular Birds of Prey in comic-book-accurate costumes in the film. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is still much more than half a year away, with Chad Stahelski helping reshoot some sequences. Yet, the promotional push begins in earnest with both the new poster and the Birds of Prey teaser attached to It: chapter Two. implied to be an in-theater-only exclusive, the short promotion immediately leaked online. once again, we see flashes of the characters, including Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask, and the poster offers a (somewhat) clear look at them for the first time.

The image below shows Robbie’s Quinn with herself and her supporting cast flying around her head. clearly a play on both the name of the film and the cartoon effect of “little birdies” flying around someone’s head when hit with an anvil or something. numerous fans immediately discovered that none of the characters wear comics-accurate costumes. An unconfirmed leak on the DC films’ “spoilers” subreddit (posted shortly after the poster debuted) says that none of the characters will don their costumes in the film. Black Mask, apparently, will only wear a “domino” mask at a single point in the film.

What the new Birds of Prey Poster says about the film Leaks

The new Birds of Prey poster strengthens the rumor that the cast will not be seen in costumes. By this point in the marketing for suicide Squad, we’d seen peeks of Deadshot, killer Croc, and Katana all wearing comics-accurate outfits.

Fans on Twitter particularly took exception to the idea that Black Mask will not, in fact, wear a black mask. Some worry this will “ruin” the character. At the very least, some fans feel they will not get the Black Mask comics fans “deserve” in this film.

I’m going to get so much hate for this but I’m just going to say it. Those that think that Birds of Prey will be bad because Black Mask might not have his Mask need to stop being dramatic. ??‍♂️

Other fans feel that McGregor’s villain doesn’t actually need a mask for the film to be enjoyable. McGregor is very hard not to like, no matter the role. Yet, there is one element of the leaks that could spell trouble for the film.

Some of the leaked info involves rumors already out there, such as Black Mask being gay, a first for DC Movies. Also, along with no costumes, the “MacGuffin” in the film is allegedly a very important diamond. Basco’s Cain “swallows” it early in the film for some reason. Quinn and the rest of the Birds of Prey team up to safeguard Cain from Sionis and Zsasz who want to violently get it back. The leaker also suggests the “twist” will be that the diamond is actually a data storage device including private, intimate pictures of Sionis. turning the first female-led DC team-up film into a chase over male nudes seems much more regrettable than edgy or profound.  Hopefully, that part of the Birds of Prey leaks are wrong or a joke.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will arrive in theaters in February 2020.
