Logan Williams is one actor of four who had the distinction of playing Barry Allen, otherwise known as the Flash, in live-action. The up-and-coming Canadian star unexpectedly passed away this week at the age of 16, leaving his family heartbroken. Compounding their tragedy, due to social distancing guidelines for the COVID-19 virus, his family has to mourn his loss physically besides one another. To fans of the Arrowverse, however, he is the face of young Barry Allen, playing the character in a lot more than a half-dozen episodes considering that 2014. He even named his puppy “Barry” in honor of the famous character.

No cause of death was used by the family, which only indicates that they want privacy. However, his passing doesn’t appear to be related to the global pandemic. along with appearing on The Flash, Williams also had a recurring role in the series When calls the Heart. He played Miles Montgomery in the Hallmark channel period drama. He won awards for his craft and earned a nomination as best Newcomer during the 2015 Union of British Colombia/Alliance of Canadian Cinema, television and Radio artists awards.

Along with acting, Williams was drawn to music. He took pleasure in rap and rock, including bands like green Day and Panic! At the Disco. He posted on his Instagram account about his love of the Broadway musical Hamilton. In short, despite being a part of an famous DC franchise, he was also just a normal kid.

The impact of his sudden passing is even harder on his family, according to his mother, Marlyse Williams, who spoke with their local paper.

From The Tri-City News:

“Adding to her sorrow is the fact that she cannot grieve for her kid with her family because of COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions. With her support network only allowed to contact her by phone, social media and email, Williams is mourning alone.

“’I am not able to hug my parents who lost their only grandchild,’ Williams said. ‘It’s hard,’ she added….”

His mother, daddy Clive, grandparents, aunts, and uncles are supporting each other as much as they can remotely. However, it’s just not the same as grieving together in person.

Still, his colleagues from The Flash remembered Logan Williams as a talented colleague and a happiness to work with. John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry’s daddy (but also Barry in the 1990 series of the same name), honored him online.

“Heartsick to learn of Logan Williams’ death at 16. He was 100% committed to playing young Barry Allen, and we missed him once we moved past that part of the story. love and compassion to Logan’s family and pals in your grief.”

Mark Hamill, the only other actor to appear in both Flash series, replied with his condolences as well.

Grant Gustin, who plays adult Barry Allen, used a heartfelt tribute to Williams on his Instagram.

He wrote:

“Just hearing the devastating news that Logan Williams has passed away suddenly. This picture was early in the filming of The Flash pilot episode back in 2014. I was so pleased by not only Logan’s talent but his professionalism on set. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and his family during what is I’m sure an unimaginably tough time for them. Please keep Logan and his family in your thoughts and prayers during what has been a odd and trying time for us all. sending love to everyone.”

Gustin also recently lost his grandfather, Harry Nelson Gustin, in the last week. In a tragic coincidence, the season 6 premiere of The Flash was all about taking care of despair and the loss of a child.

Our thoughts are with Logan Williams’ family at this time. and while it’s no consolation for their immeasurable loss, young Logan will be immortalized as generations of comics fans discover The Flash in the coming decades. He helped define the emotional heart of one of the best live-action superhero portrayals across any medium.
